Why do people take CBD?
Legally CBD oil is sold and marketed as a ‘food supplement’, not a medicine, and with that in mind CBD oil is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or illness. Due to strict government guidelines in the UK, EU & US, we are unable to make any claims as to the potential specific benefits of CBD. However, we would urge you to undertake your own research e.g. online via Google, as many people are now successfully using this wonderful supplement for a multitude of reasons. There are thousands of testimonials out there!
Is it safe?
Yes! In 2017 the World Health Organisation (WHO) published a report saying that naturally occurring CBD is safe and well tolerated in humans, and is not associated with any negative public health effects. It was also stated that CBD does not induce physical dependence and “is not associated with abuse potential”.
Will CBD make me feel drowsy?
No, CBD will not make you feel drowsy or ‘high’. Full spectrum CBD contains only trace (0.3%) THC which is the compound in the cannabis sativa plant that will get you ‘high’.
How much do I take?
There is no one single dose that works for everyone as it depends on age, sex, weight and whether you are taking other medications. We are all different with potentially different issues that we want to address. Others may just want to take the oil to simply help protect their health, from a prevention perspective. However, the good news is that whilst discovering your ‘sweet spot’ e.g. the right dose that works for you, CBD is well tolerated and incredibly safe, and to date, there have been no cases of CBD overdose. The rule to follow with CBD is to start low and work your way up, as the benefits of proceeding in this manner mean that your body is given time to get used to the CBD and importantly you may discover that CBD works for you at a minimum dose so you will, therefore, save yourself money. Many people using CBD find that a dose between 5-15mg taken once or twice a day is enough, yet others have highly successful results with as little as 1.5-5 mg per day (depending on what strength oil you buy this could be as little as one drop). Generally, people take the dose twice a day e.g. every 12 hours, but some people find that only taking the CBD once a day works for them. Conversely, others find that microdosing several times a day works better for them. There is no correct answer. The key is to listen to your own body and if a lower dose does not work for you, gradually increase until you find the dose that does. This process may involve trial and error, and some people fail at the first hurdle as they take it once or only a few times and decide it has not worked and give up. Very few supplements work after one dose, and CBD is no different. Like some other herbal supplements it can take up to 3 months before the full benefits kick in, some people will feel the effects virtually straight away, so again we say, we are all different!
How do I take CBD?
There are various methods for taking CBD oil but orally is the easiest and best for most people. Pure CBD oil tinctures can be administered sublingually e.g. drops placed under the tongue, which allows the CBD to be absorbed by the capillaries and then directly into the bloodstream. Our oil has been constructed with low viscosity for maximum absorption. Once the liquid is held for up to 90 seconds under the tongue, the remainder is then swallowed. Using this method means that the CBD reaches the bloodstream and interacts with the endocannabinoid system within minutes. If it is swallowed straight away then it is impaired by our stomach acids. this is why we don’t produce capsules. CBD can be applied topically in creams and massage oil.
How long on average does it take to feel the effects?
The effects of CBD take anything from a few seconds to 60 minutes to kick in depending on how you are taking the CBD and when you last ate e.g. it works faster on an empty stomach. For many it may take days or even weeks for the oil to be absorbed fully and build up in the body before the user feels the full benefits.
Hemp Oil seems cheaper, isn’t it the same thing as CBD oil?
No! CBD Oil will be labelled ‘CBD Oil’ or ‘CBD Hemp Oil’. If a product is labelled ‘Hemp Oil’ it will mean that it is a nutritional supplement that does NOT contain CBD.
What is a Carrier Oil?
Once the CBD has been extracted from the plant it is mixed with a carrier oil. The oil dilutes the CBD to the correct strength, makes measuring dosages easier and sometimes helps with absorption into the body. Our unique combination of Sunflower Oil and Olive Oil, not only helps the body absorb the CBD easier and quicker, but also has added benefits such as Lecithin, Vitamins and anti-oxidants.
THC or no THC?
There is a lot of fear and confusion around THC. Some people believe that any THC is bad and therefore should be avoided, others think it is the holy grail and take it in isolation and in high quantities. The truth is, it’s all in the balance. THC and CBD have a relationship which works best when they are used together. THC and CBD both fit perfectly into the endocannabinoid system in the brain but have different positive qualities. THC has (along with the terpenes found in the plant) been shown to have positive properties, however, as you might expect, nature knows best and when you start to isolate these elements it causes problems. THC used in isolation and in high doses, such as in recreational cannabis, can cause stress, anxiety and memory loss and causes a psychoactive high that is addictive. CBD is harmless when isolated but seems to be much less effective than when used in conjunction with the right amount of THC and the terpenes alsp found in the plant. CBD, terpenes and THC, in the right quantities and ratio, enhance the positive effects of each other giving you much more powerful results. This is often called “The entourage effect”. Simply put a high dose (up to the legal limit) of THC combined with CBD and terpenes create a more powerful positive effect with no side effects and won’t get you high or cause addiction.
Some people refer to % CBD, what does this mean?
Percentage is quite a confusing term with regards to CBD, and this, in turn, can be very misleading. The important thing with regards to CBD is the milligram level, and this should be shown clearly on the packaging. The industry is starting to clamp down on companies promoting the % of CBD, as some unscrupulous firms are intentionally misleading consumers by claiming a product is a higher % than it actually is. There are lots of instances where a test certificate is issued with a %, but the test was done on a 10ml sample size, then the seller has rebottled the product into a 50ml sized bottle, so they are actually reducing the size % by 5! The ONLY way you should buy CBD is when you can clearly see how many milligrams are in the product in total, then it’s simply a case of increasing the number of drops you take until you hit your sweet spot.
How is CBD Oil extracted?
Cannabidiol oil is obtained from hemp through a unique technique called supercritical CO2 extraction. We use hemp because it is naturally low in THC and high in CBD. We opt for this technique because it enables us to produce oil that yields the full spectrum of cannabinoids in the Cannabis Sativa plant. Our extracts contain a multitude of cannabinoids with positive effects, as well as terpenes, minerals, fatty acids and vitamins. All these substances make our products nourishing and we recommend them as dietary supplements. CO2 extraction is known in the industry to be the most superior method, delivering pure oil with no contaminants like ethanol and the method we use keeps all the other ingredients in tact for optimums results. Once extracted we do not heat the oil as others do to “dew” it as we know this will also damage the contents. Instead we use a centrifuge and a series of very fine filters to create our pure quality oil.
Is your CBD Oil synthetic or natural?
We extract CBD oil from industrial hemp, so our products are all natural. Industrial hemp is naturally rich in CBD and low in THC so we use this plant to make sure the final product contains a multitude of useful compounds and no psychoactive substances. All as nature intended.
What is the Entourage Effect?
The concept of the Entourage Effect was conceived by Raphael Mechoulam, the man who first discovered THC and CBD. He suggested that cannabis compounds such as CBD work better when taken together. In other words, a proper cannabis extract should be more effective than CBD taken on its own. When all compounds of the cannabis plant work together in harmony you get something called ‘the entourage effect’. Full Spectrum (or whole plant extract) contains all cannabinoid compounds and so produces the much desired entourage effect.
What are Terpenes?
Aha! Few can mistake the pungent smell of cannabis and for that, we have the terpenes to thank for! There are over 100 terpenes identified in the cannabis sativa plant and at present over 30 have been identified that are thought to bring their own therapeutic effect to the endocannabinoid system. More research is being carried out on this small but believed to be vital ingredient. Simply brilliant.
What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) discovered in the 1980’s, is a network of sensory receptors found throughout the body and brain. These receptors work in a lock and key relationship. There are 2 primary kinds of receptors in the ECS, CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors mostly exist in the brain and spinal cord. CB2 receptors are mainly found in the immune system but exist through many other areas of the body. CB2 receptors primary role is in reducing inflammation throughout the body. If the ECS is working correctly, your body would produce its own phytocompounds called endocannabinoids that nourish the ECS. This vital system is primarily focused in supporting balance (homeostasis) in the body. Unfortunately this system can become less effective with age and environmental pressures in today’s modern world. Within the ECS, cannabinoids(CBD,and CBG & THC) act like keys and receptors act like locks. Every time a “ key” fits into a “ lock”, the lock is opened and causes an effect to occur in the body. This is why so many people in so many situations find our oil supports them on so many levels. We are just giving the body what it needs to help get it back into balance and better health.
Is it safe to take CBD while pregnant or breastfeeding?
As there is little evidence in this area we would recommend that you don’t take CBD products while pregnant or breastfeeding. In fact, as it’s classed as a supplement, we have to state that it’s not suitable for women in this situation.
Will it show up on a drug test?
CBD is considered to be undetectable in saliva or urine tests, though there remains a possibility that the small trace amounts of THC may be detected. All of our products comply with all regulations regarding minimal THC content, and our full-spectrum hemp oil contains less than 0.3% of THC by volume, as required by law. However, if you are subject to regular drug screening, we recommend you check with your employer.
Do CBD Oils expire?
Yes, they do, but they have a shelf life of 2 years. Each packet is clearly marked with a “best before” date.
